Web 2.0
FAQ page taken from Wikipedia
Not to be confused with Internet 2.0
Also not to be confused with newer technologies such as Virtual Reality Internet.
This is why I ask "What do you mean by Web 2.0?"
It is not that I do not know what it is, but you have not stated what you want.
Because its meaning has diluted you can not ASSUME it is universal.
It is jargon not official to any one organization.
Lately I have seen people use the term Web 2.0 when posting for web work. I fear many do not even know what that is even as they post for those jobs.
Web 2.0 was to refer to the ever expanding progression of internet technology invading other devices and activities; each inter mingling.
Not just for your Desktop anymore.
But I have also seen many miss use the term to refer to social networks. In the effect referred to in the inter operability between users. The inter operability is the key that does refer to Web 2.0, but that is not exactly Web 2.0
The Key to social networking is servers with some of the more advanced codes like PHP and ASP, often working with server side databases.
Your PDA or iPhone, both still technically a computer, just palm sized, communicating to the web is different enough that is would or could be considered part of it. At the Minnesota Daily we were already working on this technology in 1997.
But as time goes on it has lost much of its meaning. It does not exactly apply to new technology but rather to the infusion of web technology into expanding number of devices.
It better is to be understood as such before loosing its meaning and being relegated to ONLY a Buzz word without any meaning anymore.
New technologies will always be developed on the web, it is just part of it. No need to invent a term for it. Just ask what languages you use, how long have you used it, and maybe cite examples.
I will wait until Internet 2.0 becomes common (That is newer) and Virtual Reality Websites (which I have played with making, Adobe Atmosphere) are common place.
It is my hope we do not have to refer to them as Web 3.0 just to make it clear.... Oh Well.
If you MUST use the term Web 2.0, I might moan (internally), that is until I understand you do know the meaning.
